Snorkeling in Bali: the best places with a map

I love snorkeling, swimming and seeing marine life. Bali offers so much livelihood in the ocean, it’s like you are in another world. It’s a bit true because it’s the world underwater. Here I have a list about the best snorkel spots of Bali. The last one is my favorite spot for swimming and snorkeling. This article has no affiliate links, I am not earning anything I just hope you have a good time when snorkeling in Bali.

Tip: Do not forget to use sunscreen well before swimming. Swim with a shirt also helps protect your skin from the sun.

Padangbai Snorkeling

On our way to go for snorkeling

If you are in Kuta, Seminyak, Legian, Canggu or nearby these areas then the closest place for snorkeling is at Padang Bai. Driving to this place takes about 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic. You can rent a boat with a captain, it’s 250k IDR per person (18$/person) for about 2 hours. I think 1 boat can fit 6 people, and it does provide some shade. You will visit 3 places for snorkeling. We were lucky and saw a sea turtle swimming.

Nusa Penida Snorkeling

A snorkel tour in Nusa Penida brings you to different locations. The popular Manta Bay gives you a chance to meet a manta ray. The coral gardens for the view off tropical corals and fish. There are multiple locations but these two are the ones that are the most popular. To get here you would need to take a boat from Sanur or Padangbai.

Tulamben / Amed The Liberty Shipwreck

The first time I went here was snorkeling. It’s about 25 meters from the black stone beach to the shipwreck. The liberty ship lies at -12 meter, with flippers and goggles this was reachable but not for long. So I came back with a diving group to view it. As a discovery scuba (without PADI), you are allowed to go to -12 meters. The ship is 115 meters long and goes up to -20+ meters in depth. Some people can freedive this. There is some stunning marine life to see here.

For snorkeling you can go here by yourself it’s close to the beach. If you want to dive I have a good experience with

Gili Trawangan snorkeling

One of the more popular things to do is snorkeling. It can become crowded here because of its clear waters. Every time I was here it’s a bit busy. For snorkeling, I just asked the Hotel where I was staying that I wanted to do a snorkel tour. They have a lot of glass-bottom boats, but it was not really clear when I was using a glass-bottom boat.

Permuteran at the beach of Taman Sari

Right on the beach you can swim and snorkel there. There is a project going on there for several years to enhance coral growth. I think it’s nicer to swim here as there are a lot fewer people. The coral here is flourishing compared to other places. Enjoy swimming in these pristine waters

Head to the beach at Taman Sari, it’s right there.

Menjangan island

My favorite place to snorkel and dive in Bali. The water is clearer than elsewhere in Bali. There are a lot fewer people because it’s far from the center where most things happen. There is a more interesting marine life to enjoy viewing here.
